» Unlike most children, Hester did not have the luxury of knowing who her father was. Despite being of pureblood, their mother was indiscriminate with her bedmates. Men came and went, to the point where young Hester began tuning them out. A few returning faces tried to fall in her good graces, but she let it be known that she was not interested in her mother's playthings. [break][break]



Even fewer of those men bothered to make a fuss over the child, and one or two even dared to examine her like an animal. The man who would later proclaim himself to be their father remarked over the red of her eyes, the edge to her teeth, and the curious way she perked up at the faintest hint of blood. [break][break]



"She has my eyes," he said, hoisting her into the air. "Do you know what you are, little one?" [break][break]



A question that's plagued them constantly, for which she was finally given an answer. She knew she was at least a halfblood, thanks to her grandfather; a mongrel, a filthy mutt, bastard child, is what he called her. But never did they suspect halfbreed. [break][break]



But their father used words such as daughter, offspring...progeny. [break][break]



He promised to teach them everything; how to thrive and survive in a world that was cruel to those who were different. And yet he soon disappeared, much like most of the men in her mother's life. He resurfaced from time to time, always claiming to be out on business. Hester understood that he had many other children, including a few within her age range. But only few of them had the potential and honor of being called his heirs. He said only a few came close, but praised Hester for her eagerness to learn and please. [break][break]



He supplied them with his own personalized accounts and journals, and while he seemed reluctant to take the girl out for practical experiments, told her that small animals would suffice for now. Even Janna offered to let the girl bite her, as she admitted to doing the same for the vampire. It was the safest approach, and would prepare Hester for long months away from home. [break][break]



But it did not save a few familiars from the young dhampir's insatiable thirst. She was sent care packages of blood and blood lollipops, but preferred to go straight to the source. There were times where she would throw small tamtrums when intially weaned off her mother's "milk," but never did she lash out at another student. Vampire 101 heavily demanded that they not let themselves be known to the general populace. As far as the professors and other students knew, Hester was a halfblood and albino. The headmaster knew better, of course. [break][break]



» Like their mother, a popular potioneer working in Sweden, they graduated from the Durmstrang Institute and were notably quite skilled at potion making. Unlike their mother, Hester was drawn to the healthcare field. While they were more than welcome to work alongside their mother (and did, for a short while), sought the more adventurous route. [break][break]



» While in training to be a mediwizard, Hester was encouraged to become a healer instead. Her magic was strong, and bar her poor bedside manner, had a way of soothing patients. It was all in the voice, as they'd say. They had a quiet way of talking that made others listen with rapt attention, a soft quality that left a pleasant tingle in the ears. [break][break]



And a lovely smile. [break][break]



» But the stuffy and mostly quiet life of a healer were not for Hester. They wanted to be out and about, on the field, tending to injured quidditch players and other unfortunates. It was the possibility of freshly spilled blood that attracted them. Young blood and broken bodies... [break][break]



» She witnessed death for the first time as a small child, when she simply watched her grandfather die after a fatal tumble down the stairs. [break][break]



» Learned her father's language, Icelandic, to communicate with him as a "secret language." Mostly corresponds with him via letters these days, as he is always on the move...or on the run. [break][break]



» Older and wiser now, they've long since found a means of placating their blood lust; being on the field so much has done wonders. [break] [break]



» They proudly embrace their otherness, though are careful not to flaunt it while working or in mixed company. The fuss over blood purity baffles them, and they'd like nothing more than to see those standards abolished altogether. [break][break]



» Hester still lives in Sweden and tends to emergencies or house calls there, but commutes to the UK to offer her services at St. Mungo's and the surrounding area. She fancies the idea of moving entirely and settling as a healer someday.
